What is Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)?
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is housing for NDIS participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. These homes have design features that help residents live more independently and make supports easier or safer to deliver. SDA funding sits in a participant's NDIS plan and relates to the dwelling itself, not day-to-day support services.
Who is SDA for?
SDA is only for a small proportion of NDIS participants. In general, participants considered for SDA have extreme functional impairment or very high support needs and must meet the SDA needs requirement and NDIS funding criteria. The NDIA assesses this as part of home and living decisions.
How do I know if I am eligible for SDA funding?
Yes. Eligible participants can make decisions about where they want to live and which suitable SDA provider they want to enter into an agreement with. The NDIS also provides the SDA Finder to help participants search for vacancies by location, design category, building type, number of residents, price, and more.
